Currently available Wikipedia Databases for Mopedi

To download and install Mopedi databases, you can either do it manually, or through the database manager in Mac and Windows version of Mopedi.

For manual installation 7-Zip is recommended for unpacking the databases, especially for dewiki, enwiki, frwiki.

Installation

For installation extract the database zip at the root of your memory card using a PC. Or do it on the phone with this HowTo

The zip files contain an embedded path, so for example, for the Swedish wikipedia the resulting directory will be:

E:\mpaja\svwiki

on the phone, containing all the database files.

In future versions the Mopedi application itself may feature a download capability, or a PC helper application can manage wikipedia databases.

To remove an existing wikipedia db from the phone, just delete the subdirectory with contents. For example delete

E:\mpaja\svdemowiki 

to get rid of the Swedish demo database.

Note: Both phone's built-in Zip Manager application and Windows XP's built-in zip extract fail with multigigabyte zip files. For Windows users, 7-Zip is a good free tool. On Linux choices are many, for example unzip version 6.00 works fine from the command line.

Note 2: VFAT file system on the memory cards caps the maximum file size at 4 Gb. So you can't store a bigger zip file itself on a memory card or phone memory even if you have 8 or 16 Gb available. When unzipped, the database individual files do not go beyond 2Gb size, which is the limit for Nokia's S60 5th edition files.
